Aromatherapy Fights Baldness

Aromatherapy is an ancient healing art which uses essential oils of various plants, or aromatic extracts of herbs, flowers and seeds, to effectively treat a whole range of health conditions. Holistic practitioners, who are knowledgeable in centuries-old secrets of aromatherapy, can help their patients manage a number of diseases, ranging from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and eczema to post-traumatic stress disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, persistent dandruff and hair loss. Aromatherapy can be a successful treatment for aches and pains, skin and nail problems, as well as indigestion and fatigue. It is also a proven remedy against stress-related disorders that often negatively affect the health of the skin, scalp and hair.

Aromatherapy teaches that topical applications, as well as breathing in fragrances of certain essential oils, can restore the vital balance of energy, thus curing diseases, providing relaxation, easing fatigue, lifting spirits, healing the skin, boosting hair growth, and invigorating the entire body.

Modern branches of aromatherapy, which are presently taught in specialized schools and colleges, are often combined with healing elements of relaxation massage. Professional services of certified aromatherapists, rendered in SPAs, yoga centers, salons and even some medical clinics, are presently in high demand, and rightfully so. Although popular mostly for its stress-relieving qualities, aromatherapy is less known for its ability to naturally combat hair loss and restore the normal, healthy growth of hair.

In addition to their traditional use for millennia, certain essential oils have also been proven by modern researchers to benefit the health of hair. Depending on a particular herb or seed, aromatic plant extracts can stimulate the growth of new hair, hamper scalp inflammation, increase circulation, or improve the supply of oxygen and other nutrients into hair follicles. Other essential oils are famous for their ability to detoxify the scalp and remove disease-producing bacteria and fungi, excessive sebum, and dandruff.

Here are several practical tips that will help you incorporate the ancient art of aromatherapy into treating scalp problems and hair loss:

• To stimulate hair follicles, use a combination of essential oils of bay and lavender. Mix 4 ounces almond oil with 3 drops bay and 3 drops lavender oils, and massage this fragrant elixir into your scalp and hair. Leave for half-an-hour, and then rinse with lukewarm water. In addition to supporting hair growth, this oil combination will also help you relieve stress. Another way to benefit from essential oils of bay and lavender is to mix several drops of each with a mild shampoo. This aromatherapeutic shampoo can be used for cleaning your hair twice a week.

• To additionally nourish hair roots, use a mixture of castor and almond oils. Combine together equal parts of each oil and apply them to massage your scalp several times a week.

• To moisturize the scalp and hair and supply your hair follicles with all necessary nutrients for successful hair growth, use extra-virgin, cold-pressed olive oil. The most effective application method is to massage a generous amount of olive oil into your scalp just before the bedtime, cover your head with a plastic cap, and leave the oil on until morning. It then should be washed off with an additive-free shampoo.

• To strengthen your hair, use an infusion of mustard oil and henna leaves. Heat gently 1 cup mustard oil, add several handfuls of henna leaves, and then leave the mixture at a warm place for about an hour. Strain the oil into a clean glass container and use it to for a weekly scalp massage.

• To stop hair loss and revive weakened hair roots, try a powerful combination of essential oils of cedarwood, rosemary, thyme and lavender. Mix 2 drops of each with 5 teaspoons jojoba or grapeseed oil, and use this remedy to massage your scalp for several minutes every night. Leave the oil on your hair overnight, and rinse it in the morning with warm water and some shampoo, if needed. Continue treatment for at least three months, and watch your hair regaining its strength and thickness!

Good quality essential oils can be purchased from your local health food store. It is also recommended that, before using aromatic extracts of healing plants for treatment, you should consult an experienced aromatherapist.
