How to Maintain Healthy Scalp and Hair
Harsh hair-salon procedures, such as dyeing, straightening, perming or blow-drying, often result in irreversible damage to the scalp and hair shafts. The damage can be prevented if we minimize our exposure to hair manipulations that involve toxic chemicals and hot air. However, in our technological age it is not always possible. Next best thing is to take a good care of our scalp and hair, which includes using right products, deep-conditioning the hair shafts, nourishing the scalp, and applying herbal-based treatments that protect hair follicles and fight hair loss.
Our hair needs natural nutrients – plant-derived vitamins, minerals, and lubricants. It also requires regular cleaning and brushing, as well as protection against the sun, wind, and other environmental factors that may contribute to hair loss.
Proper hair care starts with selecting the best products for your particular hair type. Stock your cabinet with good shampoos, deep conditioners, live-on moisturizers, herbal hair masks, beneficial rinses that contain apple cider vinegar, and natural massage oils, such as coconut butter, emu oil, or extra-virgin olive oil.
Start off your Sunday morning with thoroughly washing your hair using a mild shampoo and lukewarm water. Avoid hot water since it may cause overproduction of sebum, greasiness, and scalp irritation, especially in those individuals who are prone to scalp psoriases or seborrheic dermatitis. Always select a shampoo according to your hair type. If your hair tends to be dry and frizzy, or if it has been previously damaged by chemical procedures, opt for the mildest available type of shampoo that contains only natural herbs and oils.
After shampooing, towel-dry your hair and apply a deep-conditioning treatment. Alternatively, you can use a coconut or emu oil mask, massaging it deeply into the scalp and hair roots. The mask, as well as a live-on conditioner, should not be washed off until at least one hour later. A good scalp massage, which increases circulation, rejuvenates hair follicles and promotes overall hair growth, should always accompany your week-end “hair facial”.
The last step of your weekly hair care is washing off residual hair products (use only water!), bathing your hair in a herbal hair rinse with some vinegar in it, and drying your locks with a towel (do not use blow-dryers!).
If you are not sure which products to choose for your regular hair treatments, try a natural Biologique Recherche line of hair-care products, which has been designed and manufactured in France. The brand offers a whole range of beneficial shampoos, treatments, conditioners, and finishing products that have a rejuvenating effect on both hair and scalp.
Biologique Recherche products contain a whole variety of organic ingredients, including marine extracts, botanical compounds, and biologically-active substances. Brand manufacturers claim that their products help revitalize the scalp and re-balance weakened hair. The line also features products specially designed to treat widely-spread scalp conditions, such as dermatitis, sensitive scalp, dandruff, and sebhorrheic dermatitis.
Among other products, Biologique Recherche offers a mask-treatment to nourish and strengthen tiny blood vessels that deliver oxygen and nutrients to the scalp and hair roots. The mask called “Masque Biologique Capillaire” is said to have hydrating and revitalizing effects on dry, damaged hair. It contains highly valuable, naturally-derived components: essential fatty acids, vitamin C, and extracts of seaweed and other nutrient-rich plants.
Another good product of the Biologique Recherche line is “Graise de Vision” that contains mink oil and has been specially designed to treat very dry hair with split ends.
To combat hair loss and restore hair volume, thickness and density of your hair shafts, opt for “Bioproline Serum” or “Cegaba + Bioprolene Serum”; however, it your hair tends to develop dandruff and excessive oiliness, you will highly benefit from the product named “Complex Capillaire Serum”.
